Description

Goddess Saraswati (AKA Saravatī, ) drawn in the modern Newar style of Nepal by Anna Bhee.

The goddess of writing, creativity, and the arts, Sri Saraswati is the well-known Hindu goddess associated with inspiration, knowledge, intention, and expression.

She is portrayed holding a musical instrument called a Vina in her front hands, to indicate her generosity, spontaneous creativity, and power over vibration. In her back hands, she holds the rosary (mālā) to indicate her power over sound and speech, as well as the sacred text to indicate her supreme knowledge.

She rides the swan as her vehicle, representing her purity and discernment. It is said that the wings of her swan are the in-breath and the out-breath. She has a gentle expression on her face that reflects her benevolent disposition.
